Lopers Drop Close One to the Rambelles

Kearney, Neb. – The 24th-ranked Angelo State Rambelles won four close matches to take a 6-1 decision over 15th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Saturday in Texas.

ASU improves to 7-2 while UNK falls to 6-4. The Lopers have one more dual on its "Spring Break" trip, a Tuesday morning affair at No. 21 Midwestern State (9-3) in Wichita Falls. The Mustangs face MIAA member Emporia State on Monday.  UNK Tennis

The 'Belles took the doubles point as the number three team of Eva Schwartz and Mike Van Deventer got past UNK's Melisa Becerra (Columbia) and Masha Hatouka (Belarus) by a 7-6 score. UNK was up 2-0 and 3-1 early on but ASU came back to lead 5-4 and never trailed again. At number two, Mia Sherikulova (Kyrgyzstan) and Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) won 6-3 to give the Lopers a chance at the doubles point.

Angelo swept No. 1 and 2 singles as did sophomore Jazmin Zamorano (Mexico) at the fourth spot. She got past Schwartz 6-3, 6-3. However, the 'Belles won three, three-set tiebreakers at three (7-5, 5-7, 7-6), five (7-5, 4-6, 7-6) and six (6-4, 2-6, 6-1) to clinch the dual win.
