Weekend Sweep

Kearney, Neb. – The 48th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team recorded its third straight sweep after a 7-0 decision over Emporia State Sunday afternoon at Harmon Park.

UNK improves to 9-7 (3-2 MIAA) and now has eight 7-0 wins this season. The Hornets, meanwhile, fall to 6-8 (2-3) and have dropped 11 of the last 13 against the Lopers.

The Blue & Gold allowed just three combined points at number one and two doubles to take a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard. The team is now 31-20 on the year in doubles. Bumping everyone up a spot in singles, UNK won five of the matches in straight sets and rallied to win in three in the other.

Madagascar freshman Narindra Ranaivo was perfect at number two (6-0, 6-0), Mexico sophomore Jazmin Zamorano ran her singles win streak to 13 in a row after a 6-2, 6-4, win at number one (6-2, 6-4) and Missouri senior Pranathi Gannavaram rallied at number six (2-6, 6-4, 7-6; 7-4).

A tough road trip is on deck as the team faces No. 5 Central Oklahoma, Northeastern State and No. 37 Southeastern Oklahoma State next weekend.
