Opening Day Wins

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team started the 2022-23 season by beating Southwest Minnesota State, 7-0, and Minnesota State-Moorhead, 6-1, Saturday in Marshall, Minn.

The Lopers saw sophomore Clare Plachy (Lincoln Pius) and freshman Olivia Flood (Kearney H.S.) rally from 5-4 deficit to win 7-6 (5) at number three doubles against SMSU. UNK then dominated singles, giving up just a combined 13 points. Plachy won at number six (6-0, 6-3) with sophomore Masha Hatouka (Belarus) one of three Lopers to win 6-1, 6-0.

Against the Dragons, the Lopers swept through doubles (6-0, 6-1, 6-0) and took five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Plachy and Hatouka both blanked their opponents (6-0, 6-0).

UNK faces Minnesota State-Mankato tomorrow in Marshall.
