UNK Battles #11 UCO

Kearney, Neb. – The 11th-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos scored two first half goals to down Nebraska Kearney, 2-0, Friday night in Edmond.

UCO improves to 8-1-2 (3-1-0) and to 4-0-1 at home. They are also in fourth place in the MIAA standings, right behind Fort Hays State and Washburn (both 3-0-1) and No. 4 Central Missouri (4-0-0).

The 'Chos got on the board in the 25th minute when junior forward Amaya Grace sent a cross in from the left wing and found junior midfielder Monika McGee in the far-right box. She knocked the ball down, dribbled in and tallied her fourth goal of the fall.

Six minutes later, sophomore midfielder Madison Linavog scored her fourth goal of 2022 when she scored from right wing. Her shot was stopped by Lincoln sophomore keeper Mackenzie Smith but officials determined the ball still rolled past the line.

Freshman midfielder Lauren Piper (team-high five) was one of seven 'Chos that got off at least two shots. UCO had an 8-3 advantage in corners but only out shot UNK by a 9-6 margin in the first half.

Both senior Caralee Legg (Topeka, Kan.) and true freshman Reagan Downes (Olathe, Kan.) had two shots apiece with junior Jacylan Doering (Lincoln Pius X) and true freshman Mia Lang (Papillion-LaVista South) taking the others. Doering's shot was on goal and came in the 33rd minute. Finally, Smith recorded eight saves.

The Lopers (0-9-2, 0-3-1) head to Wichita Sunday afternoon to face the Newman Jets (0-10-1, 0-4-0).
