Rogers Wins Night Time Battle

Kearney, Neb. – The Rogers State Hillcats scored right before halftime and right before the clock hit zero to down Nebraska Kearney, 2-0, Friday night in Claremore, Okla.

Playing just its fourth home game of the fall, RSU improves to 6-5-2 (2-3-0) while UNK falls to 2-9-2 (1-2-2).

RSU held slim leads in both shots, 13-10, and corners, 3-2, with both teams at five shots on goal. About two minutes before the break, the 'Cats countered attacked after a UNK goal kick. Gaining possession near field midfield, junior Morgan Martucci got lose and took a shot from the corner of the right box. She hit the left post, but English junior Liberty Doyle was there for the putback.

Rogers added an insurance goal at 86:30 after a throw in near midfield. Junior Mackenzie Smith got free down the right side of the field and her cross eventually found junior Alix Tirado in the box. That marked her fifth goal of 2023.

Lincoln junior Jacylan Doering and Bolivian junior reserve Ivana Siles both had three shots for UNK with Siles one of five Lopers to have a SOG. UNK's last shot of the night game from Siles at 88:30 and it went wide left. RSU keeper Tiffany Brittan stopped a shot by Kansas senior Lily Engeman at 59:51, the Lopers last shot on goal.

UNK heads to Tahlequah on Sunday afternoon to take on Northeastern State (3-6-4, 1-4-1). The RiverHawks fell to Fort Hays State on Friday, 2-0.
