Fourth Sweep of the Young Season; Two Matches on Super Bowl Sunday

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team picked up its fourth sweep of the year Friday morning at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center in Kearney.

The Lopers (8-0), who are receiving votes for the Division II Top 25 poll, easily dispatched of the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (1-3) to start a busy weekend. Central Region power Augustana and Cowley (Kan.) College, ranked No.2 in the JUCO ranks, visit Grundy on Sunday.

Against CMU, UNK won all three doubles matches, allowing just six combined points along the way, while sweeping four singles matches. That included Madagascar sophomore Narindra Ranaivo, ranked 20th in the region, winning by 6-0, 6-0 scores at number three.

Finally, Hastings sophomore Merci Hood (10-5) at number six and Colombian junior Melisa Becerra (11-9) in the top spot won tie-breaking points to take their singles matches. Both dropped their first set before rallying. Becerra is the Central's 12th-ranked singles player. 

Augie, also among those receiving votes for the Top 25, stops by at 9:30 a.m. with the Cowley match set to begin at 2 p.m.
