NSU Caps Strong Home Season with 1-0 Decision

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Olivia Kucharyski headed in a corner kick two minutes into the second half to lift the Northeastern State River Hawks over Nebraska Kearney, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Lopers (7-5-5, 3-5-3) are now in ninth place in the league standings (12 points) as Emporia State upset Northwest Missouri today, 1-0. Those three points give the Hornets 14 for the season. UNK can still make the eight-team tournament, but it'll need to beat Fort Hays State Wednesday night. The Tigers remained at 14 points after being upset today at Rogers State, 2-1. They are 4-3-1 on the road this fall.

NSU (12-5, 6-5) capped an 8-1 home season by out shooting UNK by a 20-5 margin. However, in shots on goal, the margin was just 7-4 in favor of the 'Hawks. NSU did take seven of the game's eight corners with the Lopers now 0-6 all-time in Tahlequah.

Early in the second half, freshman Hannah Anderson lined up for a corner with only one teammate near the Lopers goal. Every other 'Hawk, including Kucharyski, was just outside of the box. They all raced in after the kick was taken with Kucharyski scoring for the fifth time this fall. She was one of six starters to have a shot on goal.

Junior Rebecca Partyka recorded four saves to post the team's eight shut out of the season. Freshman Chloe Edmunds (Boise, Idaho) had two shots on goal with senior Ivana Siles (Bolivia) and junior Hanna Schimmer (Council Bluffs, Ia.) at one piece. In goal, sophomore keeper Susan Bovaird (Lincoln) had six saves
