Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

A 3-0 Weekend at the Grundy

Kearney, Neb. The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams capped an 3-0 weekend by beating the Rockhurst (Mo.) Hawks Saturday afternoon at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

The Loper men are now 4-2 with the women now 4-0; this was their opening weekend of the spring season. On Friday, UNK bested both William (Mo.) Jewell and Colorado Mesa.

The men's 4-2 win today featured a doubles victory and straight set singles wins at two, three and four. Freshmen Andy Brisdon (U.K.) and Jakub Strzelecki (Poland) managed a 7-5 win at three to help UNK take the doubles points. Three straight set wins followed including ones by grad transfers Adam Palecek (Czechia) and Aaron Osmond (U.K.).

On the women's side, UNK came out on top by a 4-1 margin as they rolled at one and two doubles and then pulled out third-set wins at one and three singles.

Junior Masha Hatouka (Belarus) had a decisive 6-1, 6-2 at six singles but freshman and 49th-ranked Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) and senior Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) both had to rally from 1-0 deficits in their matches. They both did and then rolled in the third set; 10-5 (Gamboa) and 10-1 (Ranaivo).

Next weekend, the men host NAIA McPherson (Kan.) and Bethel (Kan.) while the women are off as the 2024 ITA National Indoor Team Championships is Feb. 23-25 at the Grundy.
