Lopers Beat Doane to Earn First Dual Win

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney men's tennis team beat Doane University, 6-1, on Saturday night and fell to nationally-ranked Pratt (Kan.) C.C., 4-3, on Sunday morning at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

By rolling past the Tigers, the Lopers (1-2) earn its first win in the program's new era. Prior to Saturday, the last dual win was a 5-2 decision over Ouachita (Ark.) Baptist in April 2018.

UNK allowed just five combined points to win all three doubles matches against Doane. In singles, the Lopers won five matches in straight sets with freshman Andy Brisdon (United Kingdom) the most dominant. He won at three, 6-1 & 6-0; in three of the other four matches, UNK allowed just two points in each.

Pratt, ranked 10th in the NJCAA, rallied for victory on Sunday thanks to third set wins at number one and three singles. Brisdon rolled at number six (6-1, 6-1) after pairing with freshman Tom van den Dungen (The Netherlands) to win at number one doubles. The Lopers won all three doubles matches with freshman Jip Mens (The Netherlands) picking up a straight sets win at four singles to tally the other team point.

Both UNK teams host William Jewell, Colorado Mesa and Rockhurst next weekend at the Grundy Center.
