Beep! Beep! Lopers Down Metro State to Start the Dual Season

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams got their dual season off on the right foot as the Lopers swept Metro State, 4-3 (men) and 7-0 (women), Thursday afternoon in Denver.

UNK remains in Colorado on Friday to face Colorado Mesa, Colorado State-Pueblo (women) and Lubbock Christian, Texas (men). These are the only duals this fall for the Lopers. 

On the women's side, senior Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) and sophomore Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe) managed a 7-6 (4) win at one doubles with seniors Masha Hatouka (Belarus) and Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.) working just as hard at three; 7-6 (6). In singles, UNK won five matches in straight sets but Bernthal again had to go the distance to at four; 0-6, 6-4, 12-10.

The Roadrunner men took the doubles point thanks to a 7-6 (5) win at three. In singles, graduate Aaron Osmond (U.K.) and sophomore Jip Mens (Netherlands) won in straight sets at three and four with sophomore Andy Brisdon (U.K.) and junior Alex Jaulin (Australia) having to rally to win at five and six. Brisdon won 6-7 (1), 6-4, 10-4 with Jaulin besting his Metro foe by a 6-7 (8), 6-2, 10-8 margin.
