UNK Gets Some Work In Prior to MIAA Championships

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney cross country teams prepped for the MIAA Championships by both placing fourth at the annual Platte River Rumble Collegiate Friday afternoon at Mahoney State Park.

The 6k and 8k races let the seven women's and eight men's teams get ready for the upcoming postseason by using some different lineups.

The 16th-ranked women tallied 98 points beat three schools, including Division I Missouri-K.C., with Creighton (28) and Nebraska Omaha (46) going 1-2. Next, the men scored 110 points to best four squads. CU almost had a perfect score (20) with South Dakota State (65) second.

Papillion junior Quin Karas (14th/26:18.34) and Lincoln freshman Easton Zastrow (25th/27:07.73) paced the men with Kansas freshman Lily Brewer (11th/22:52.07) and Kansas senior Lexi Liess (13th/22:55.61) the top two women's scorers. Mya Kizer, competing unattached from SDSU, was the women's winner (21:45.58) with Midland's Lucas Hjortkjaer (25:23.55) leading the men's field. A total of 69 men reached the line with 63 women finishing the race.

Lincoln freshman Connor Rowe (30th/27:28.44), Bennington freshman Calin O'Grady (31st/27:31.66) and North Platte freshman Aiden Hawks (36th/27:50.10) were UNK's other scorers with Lincoln freshman Joshua Bradley (39th/28:03.48) just behind. On the women's side, Kansas junior Charis Robinson (16th/23:06.13), Lincoln redshirt freshman Jordyn Wissing (31st/24:13.45) and Kansas sophomore Lydia Davis (47th/25:25.09) rounded out the top five this week.

The MIAA's are next Saturday (Oct. 24) at Four Oaks G.C. in Pittsburg, Kan.
