Lopers Fall at Emporia; Final Home Games Next Weekend

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Gracie Perez tallied her first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as Emporia State posted a 5-1 victory over Nebraska Kearney Friday afternoon in Kansas.

Due to expected inclement weather, the game was moved up two hours to a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Hornets improved to 8-4-2 (5-1-2) while the Lopers dropped to 2-8-4 (0-5-4).

Perez (Kearney H.S.) scored with 34 seconds left in the match. Her fourth career goal, she was Johnny on the spot after Hornet keeper Mackenzi Goen came out to corral a cross. However, Perez was there for the putback.

Emporia only out shot UNK by a 14-9 margin including a 9-5 advantage on goal. Having six more corners, the Hornets got goals from five different players and scored twice before the break. Canadian freshman Ella Favot tallied her sixth goal of 25 in the 57th minute and after she recorded an assist on E-State's second goal of the day. Finally, Goen had four saves.

For UNK, junior keeper Susie Bovaird (Lincoln) also had four saves with senior Mia Lang (Papillion) at a team-best two shots. Coming off the injured list, senior Corynne Olsen (Lincoln) had a shot and logged 48 minutes.

The Lopers close out its home slate next weekend when Rogers State (1-5-6, 1-3-3) and Northeastern State (7-6-1, 2-5-1) come to Foster Field. RSU was at Newman Friday night while NSU lost to rival Central Oklahoma on Thursday night.
