#10 Jens Can't Solve the Loper Defense

Kearney, Neb. – Junior keeper Susie Bovaird made seven saves and the Nebraska Kearney defense fought off 14 corners to help the Lopers tie 10th-ranked Central Missouri, 0-0, Sunday afternoon in Warrensburg.

UNK (2-4-3, 0-1-3) earns its second all-time draw with longtime national power Jennies (5-2-3, 2-0-2). Back in the fall of 2012, the Lopers and UCM battled to a 1-1 (double overtime) draw at Cope Stadium. The Jens were ranked eighth at the time.

Today, Bovaird (Lincoln East) stopped four shots in the first half and three more in the second. UCM had seven corners in each half and had a five shot advantage overall, 14-9. However, UNK had one more shot over the final 45 minutes, 6-5, and had two of its own corners.

On the season, the Blue & Gold is up to four shut outs and has allowed only eight goals. The defenders in front of Bovaird include redshirt junior Riley Jensen (Bellevue East) and freshman Shaeley Reichmuth (Skutt Catholic). UCM had tallied nine goals over its last two contests and hadn't been shut out since early September.

Offensively, junior Jordan Renard (Lincoln Northeast) had a team-bets three shots, two on goal, with sophomore reserve Serene Hamzeh (Iowa City, Ia.) having two attempts in 25 minutes of work. Finally, UCM was led by forward Mikayla Ernst (five shots; three on goal) and keeper Kristen Wright (four saves).

UNK hosts Newman (1-8-1, 0-4-0) on Friday afternoon at Foster Field.
