Lopers Return to the Diamond, Dominate the Royals and Comets

Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore Daniella Morillas and freshman Jerzie Schindler each tossed complete games and senior Ryly Nelson hit the first homer of the year to help Nebraska Kearney beat Ecclesia (Ark.) College, 7-0, and Cottey (Mo.) College, 10-1, Monday afternoon in Branson, Mo.

The games are part of the Turf's Up Invitational which was pushed back two days due to weather. UNK (6-4) will face Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) College and Morningside (Iowa) University on Tuesday. All four opponents this week are NAIA members.

Against the Royals (1-6) from Springdale, Ark., Schindler (Central City) needed just 99 pitches to get through seven innings. Improving to 3-1 she fanned four, didn't walk a batter and coaxed EC to fly out 11 times.

The Lopers took advantage of four errors and six walks to score their runs. The first four in the lineup combined to go 4 for 14 with four wins and two RBI's. That included an RBI triple by senior first baseman Leah Jurgens (Crete H.S.) with nine-hole hitter Alivia De La Cruz (Mesa, Ariz.) adding an RBI double and senior center fielder Eden McNally (Castle Rock, Colo.) recording an RBI triple in the third.

Eccleisa was paced by leadoff hitter and catcher Alexis Williams (2 for 3).

In the afternoon, Morillas (Newcastle, Calif.) threw 71 pitches over five innings and finished with three K's and seven ground outs. UNK used two CC errors, five walks and 10 hits to score 10 times with half of the runs coming in the top of the first.

Both McNally and Nelson (Sterling, Colo.) had three RBI's with sophomore catcher Gianna Galli (Stockton, Calif.) going 1 for 1 with three runs and two walks. With two down in the first, Nelson belted UNK's first dinger of the spring, a three-run shot to center.

Cottey (2-3), from Nevada, Mo., was led by left fielder Bailey Cravens (2 for 3) and relief pitcher Alyssa Cloessner (4.1 IP, three earned runs).
