Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams split with Lubbock (Texas) Christian on Friday, the women winning, 4-3, and the men falling, 5-2, at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

This was the first spring semester dual for the 13th-ranked women (4-0) while the Loper men (3-4) began last weekend.

Senior Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) tallied the winning point in the women's dual thanks to a three-set win at two (6-1, 4-6, 6-2). UNK swept doubles, allowing just six points along the way, and then sophomores Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) and Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe) won in straight sets at one and three singles. Both Ranaivo (35th) and Gamboa (23rd) are ranked nationally in singles and both beat rated LCU singles players. In doubles, Midzi and Ranaivo shu out D2's 14th-ranked doubles tandem.

The men suffered its second loss to the Chaparrals (3-1) this year as LCU won the final three singles matches in three sets. At one and two, LCU has the 34th and 32nd ranked players in Division II.

Like the women, UNK took the doubles point as sophomore Tom van den Dungen (Netherlands) and freshman Adrian Constantin (Romania) won 7-5 at one and junior Alex Jaulin (Australia) and freshman Ivan Melnik (Germany) took three by the same score. In singles, sophomore Andy Brisdon (U.K.) won in straight sets at five to tie the dual at two.

Both UNK squad take on Augustana on Sunday (9 a.m. men, 12 p.m. women).
