Novacek Earns First All-American Honor

Kearney, Neb. – Redshirt junior Lily Novacek earned first-team All-American honors by finishing eighth in the weight throw Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Indiana. Lily Novacek

This was the third national meet appearance for Novacek (Kearney H.S.) and she made the most of it by becoming UNK's fourth D2 All-American in the weight throw. She reached the finals on her first attempt (62-6) and then had to secure the eighth spot on her sixth and final throw (63-0.75).

Ashland (Ohio) sophomore Leslie Pollock briefly moved into eighth (62-10.50) on her final attempt and after Novacek had two fouls and efforts of 57-10.50 and 56-8. Junior Meadow Gallentine of West Texas A&M (67-2.25) was the national champion with another AU sophomore, Molly Winner, the national runner up (65-4.75). Finally, the MIAA had four of the 12 All-Americans in the event. 

Novacek joins Tiara Schmidt (2020-21), Amber Tiefenthaler (2003), and Janet Boettcher (1999-01) as UNK's D2 AA's in the weight throw.

The outdoor season begins next Friday (Mar. 21) with the Reiver Rust Buster in Council Bluffs.
