Hornets Take Two on a Windy Day in Kansas

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Jordan Harrison picked up her 11th win, and senior Gracie Rabe threw four strong innings to help Emporia State take a double header from Nebraska Kearney, 9-1 (6 innings) and 6-0, Friday night in Kansas.

This was just the Lopers (16-17, 2-6 MIAA) third and fourth true road games of the season. They visit Washburn (24-13, 6-4) on Saturday to complete a short road trip.

In game two, Harrison (11-3) tossed a five-hit complete game shutout that featured seven K's and two walks. She threw 124 pitches and allowed only one extra base hit as UNK stranded six. At the plate Emporia (24-12, 5-5) was led by sophomore third baseman Brooke Flewelling who went 1 for 2 with two runs and three RBI's. She hit a three-run homer, her 11th of the year, in the third. E-State also had a three-run second and took advantage of four errors overall.

Iowa redshirt junior Madeline Janssen paced UNK by allowing no runs and only one hit over the final 3.2 innings.

Rabe (8-8) limited UNK to one hit over the first four innings in game one with senior Jayda VanAckeren working around two walks and three hits to throw two scoreless innings. The Hornets struck for two in the first and six in the third to erase an early 1-0 deficit. The big third featured four hits and two walks with Flewelling belting a two-run shot to left. Catch Ally Miller also knocked in two with second baseman Mallory Moore 2 for 3 with a run and RBI.

From the Loper leadoff spot, junior shortstop Mary Chvatal (Wahoo) was 1 for 1 with a run and two walks drawn with redshirt freshman catcher Kendall Kersey (Parker, Colo.) having a pinch hit single and sophomore third baseman Alyssa Fortik (Raymond) having an RBI.

The Ichabods bested Fort Hays State on Friday evening, 3-2 and 3-0, to move to 7-1 at home.
