#16 UNK Wins Rare Harmon Park Dual; Ranaivo Ties School Record

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Narindra Ranaivo tied the school record for combined wins as 16th-ranked Nebraska Kearney beat Northeastern State, 6-1, Friday afternoon at Harmon Park.

This was just the second outdoor home dual for the Lopers (14-4, 4-1) during the 2024-25 academic year; they hosted Concordia in an exhibition match back in September. Due to weather, last weekend's league duals were moved inside to the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

Ranaivo (Madagascar) and sophomore Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe) are Division II's seventh-ranked pair and they won a hard-fought match in the top spot, 6-4. While UNK never trailed, NSU tied things up at four before Ranaivo and Midzi tallied the final two points. Including fall open tournaments, Ranaivo is up to 83 doubles and 84 wins which ties the school record set by Emma Neil ('18). Ranaivo sat out singles so the record will try and be set Saturday afternoon vs. Arkansas-Fort Smith.

UNK earned the doubles point as they scored the final two points at two and won 7-6 (7-1) at three. In singles, with Ranaivo out, everyone moved up but that didn't matter too much as the Lopers took five matches in straight sets.

Sophomore Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) rallied for a three-set win at one over 57th-ranked Tegan Heaton (5-7, -0, -2) with freshman Jasmine Ben Aba (Tunisia) getting things started with a solid win at six (-1, -2). Finally, senior Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.) swept at two (-6, -1) to reach 131 wins with senior Masha Hatouka (Belarus) right behind at 113 victories.

The Loper men host UAFS tomorrow at 10 a.m. before the Lion and Loper women start at one.
