Lopers Sweep the Lions as Ranaivo Sets Wins Record

Kearney, Neb. – The nationally-ranked Nebraska Kearney tennis teams swept Arkansas-Fort Smith, 7-0 (women) and 5-2 (men), Saturday at Harmon Park.

These were the last home duals of the 2024-25 academic year; UNK is off next weekend before heading South to finish up the regular season.

Senior Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) became the winningest player in school history with an easy 6-0 decision at number one doubles. Paired with sophomore Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe), Ranaivo pushes her combined win total to 169, surpassing the total of 167 wins Emma Neil achieved between 201-18. After that win in doubles, Ranaivo swept Taylor Conway at two singles (-0, -0).

It was "Senior Day" for the Lopers with Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.) and Masha Hatouka (Belarus) also going 2-0 on the day. Both are among the winningest players in school history with the Lopers not allowing the Lions (2-14,0-5 MIAA) to score more than three points in any singles match.

The Loper men (10-13) won the doubles point thanks to a 7-6 (-5) win from the third team of sophomores Jakub Strzelecki (Poland) and Andy Brisdon (U.K.). UNK then won each match between three and six singles to take the dual. Due to illness, UNK had to alter its lineup with Australian junior Alex Jaulin winning in three sets at six and Brisdon rolling at four (-1, -1).

Both teams are off next weekend.
