#19 Lopers Sweep Tigers in Kansas

Kearney, Neb. – The now 19th-ranked Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team won two doubles matches and three singles matches in three sets to sweep Fort Hays State, 7-0, Wednesday evening in Kansas.

Since joining the league in 2012, UNK (16-4, 6-1) has taken all 13 MIAA duals with the Tigers (12-7, 2-5). Eight of those wins have been sweeps.

An improved Hays program won at two doubles 6-3, with the Lopers taking the other two matches, 6-4 and 6-2, to win the team point. In singles, 26th-ranked Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) responded in a big way to win at two (-2, 0-6, -0) with freshman Jasmine Ben Aba (Tunisia) getting a crack in the sixth spot and responding as well (-3, 3-6, 10-7). She was up 6-0 in the third before finishing off her Tiger foe to be 2-0 on the day.

Finally, sophomore Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe) went overtime to win at three (-2, 4-6, 14-12) with 15th-ranked Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) rolling at one (-1, -1). Midzi got out to a 3-0 lead in the third but eventually fell behind by a point on four different occasions before finally winning.

The Lopers are off until a trip to Newman and Central Oklahoma next weekend.
