Fifth and Final Home Split; Long Road Swing Begins Friday

Kearney, Neb. – Senior second baseman Rylyn Nelson went 2 for 4 with three RBI's and sophomore Daniella Morillas threw 4.2 innings of strong relief to help Nebraska Kearney beat Northeastern State, 10-5, in game one of a double header Monday at Dryden Park.

The Lopers (20-19, 6-8 MIAA) were primed for their second home sweep of 2025 but left 10 runners on base in the night cap and fell, 8-5. These games, pushed back two days due to weather, were UNK's home finale. They finished 7-7 at Dryden this spring.

To end a seven-game losing streak to the RiverHawks (14-28, 7-13), UNK had a four-run first and a five-run second. While the Lopers were out hit by a 12-8 margin, they took advantage of three errors and five walks to lead from start to finish.

Nelson (Sterling, Colo.) had a two-run double in the first and an RBI single in the second. Lincoln senior first baseman Leah Jurgens (1 for 3) and Colorado redshirt freshman designated player Kendall Kersey (1 for 2) knocked in a pair of runs with Morillas improving to 6-4. She scattered five hits and walked just one over the final 4.2 innings. NSU stranded nine with pitcher/shortstop Korynn Tindell (2 for 4, three RBI's) hitting her fourth homer.

Senior Madison Heinle (6-9) threw 143 pitches in the nightcap and worked around nine hits (eight singles) and five walks to earn a win in the 2.5 second game. There was a 30-minute "clay delay" in the bottom of the second as part of the circle had been dugout with Heinle requesting reinforcement. Once play resumed, she got out of a bases loaded situation with a one-pitch line out to third. It was one of four innings where UNK left at least two on.

NSU busted things up with a four-run third that featured another Tindell homer and a three-run shot from first baseman Madison Nance (2 for 4, two runs). Nelson countered with her team-best fifth homer in the bottom of the inning, a three-run shot to right center, but NSU scored another three in the sixth.

Nelson had a sac fly in the sixth to have another three RBI's with Kersey, California sophomore catcher Gianna Galli and Arizona junior left fielder Alivia De La Cruz collecting two hits apiece. Finally, Central City freshman lefty Jerzie Schindler (6-6) allowed one earned run over the first four innings.

UNK closes the regular season with a 12-game road swing that begins with nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma (33-6, 12-2) and Newman (6-32, 1-13).
