Lopers Win in Illinois Capital City

Kearney, Neb. – The fifth-ranked Nebraska Kearney volleyball team hit .398 and got 15 kills from senior outside Emilee Lane to sweep Illinois-Springfield (-17, -15, -17) Friday night in the Land of Lincoln.

The Lopers (12-0) remain in the Capital of Illinois on Saturday to face the Maryville (Mo.) Saints at 11 a.m.

UNK got kills from eight different players, served up five aces and held the Prairie Stars (6-3) to .216 efficiency. Lane (Hays, Kan.) reached double digit in kills for the seventh time this fall as she had a line of 15/2/30 (.433). Next, position mate Carly Purdy (North Platte) had nine kills in 16 attempts (.563) with sophomore right side Brynn Stowell (Olathe, Kan.) at seven and hitting .538. Finally, senior middle Abby Rose (Lindsborg, Kan.) had six kills and hit an efficient .455.

UIS got a big effort from Kendall Johnson (!4 kills, .321 pct., eight digs) but was swept by a MIAA team for a second straight night and the third time this season. Northwest Missouri won on Thursday (-23, -14, -14) with Central Missouri sweeping Springfield (-16, -18, -14) to start the fall.

Also for the Lopers, junior libero Ellie Spang (Ft. Wayne, Kind.) and sophomore DS Anna Laincz (Lansing, Kan.) combined for 23 digs. Laincz was an outside hitter and DS for the Stars last fall. 

Maryville swept Northwest Friday in Springfield to improve to 3-5. Earlier this fall, they were swept by Pittsburg State.
