Lopers Run Well at Large Lincoln Meet

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney cross country teams placed second (women) and fourth (men) at the annual Greeno/Dirksen Invitational Saturday morning in Lincoln.

Nebraska Wesleyan hosted the large meet at Mahoney G.C. with the field ranging from Division I schools to junior colleges. 

The 18th-ranked Loper women tallied 93 points to trail only Missouri (76) with the field made up of 22 squads. UNK thus bested UNL, Creighton, Wichita State and 30th-ranked Northwest Missouri. The Loper men came in with 154 points in a field of 23 teams. They trailed only WSU (35), Mizzou (49) and the Air Force Academy (53) with 11th-ranked NW Mizzou, CU, and UNL among the teams back in the pack.

Central City senior Ella Buhlke (18:00.00), McCool Junction sophomore Kassidy Stuckey (18:02.5) and Kearney freshman Abigail Burger (18:04.5) finished six through eight in the women's 5k with Omaha senior Nick Abdalla (21st/25:10.0) and Lincoln sophomore Carter Hohlen (23rd/25:14.5) pacing the Loper men over 8k. The medalists were Northern Colorado's Regina Mpigachai (17:08.94) and WSU's Elkana Kipruto (23:55.73).

The other two women's scorers were Omaha junior Noelle Abels (36th/18:50.7) and Kansas junior Charis Robinson (40th/18:56.3) with Kansas freshman Drew Elliott (35th/25:34.0), St. Paul junior Conner Wells (40th/25:41.3) and Grand Island junior Juan Garcia (57th/25:55.3) being the third through fifth Lopers on the men's side.

UNK heads to another big meet Oct. 4 with the Chile Pepper Invite at Arkansas.
