UNK Women Have One More Fall Event

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team won 10 matches at the annual ITA Central Regional this past weekend in Edmond, Okla.

The winners of the singles and doubles "A" draws advance to the ITA Cup next month in Rome, Ga. This year, that was Washburn's Renske Ubachs and Pete Komada/Ayaka Koga from Central Oklahoma. The ITA Cup field is then rounded out by at-large selections.

Freshman Patricija Cechanaviciute (Lithuania) went 2- 1 in the "A" singles draw, beating her second-round foe from UCO by a 10-2 count in the third set. Her run ended with a loss to Ubachs. Next, sophomore Jasmine Ben Aba (Tunisia) went 2-1 in the "B" draw with three other Lopers recording a singles win.

In doubles, three UNK pairs won a match; redshirt senior Clare Plachy (Lincoln Pius) and junior Julia Wartecka (Poland), Ben Aba and freshman Augustina Abdo (Ecuador), Cechanaviciute and freshman Hannah Klaiber (Germany).

The women's fall slate ends this Saturday (Sept. 27) at the UNO Invitational. The men's team is at their respective ITA Regional in Topeka (Sept. 26-28).
