Kearney, Neb. – Junior midfielder Sophia Haase scored in the 12th minute and junior keeper Sydney Potter recorded four saves to lift Concordia-St. Paul to a 1-0 win over Nebraska Kearney Friday night in the Twin Cities.

This was the season opener for both teams. UNK faces Minnesota State-Moorhead on Sunday morning in St. Paul.

A 2024 first-team All-Region and All-NSIC selection, Haase tallied her 10th career goal at the 12:11 minute and right after CU gained possession on a turnover. Senior defender McKayla Stockness had the assist on a goal that sailed just above the leaping Susie Bovaird (Lincoln).

The Golden Bears had advantages in shots, 17-9, and shots on goal, 10-4, with UNK having two more corners, 3-1. Haase had a game-best eight shots (three on goal) with teammate Ashley Bennett at three (two on goal). In 2024, CU went 13-4-4 and reached the NCAA Tournament.

For UNK, Iowa senior and 2024 All-Region selection Hanna Schimmer had a team-best three shots (two on goal) with Kansas senior Reagan Downes at two (one on goal). Off the bench, Utah sophomore Billie Forrest had three shots (one on goal) in 57 minutes of work. Finally, Bovaird had nine saves with Kansas graduate Keila Gillispie and Lincoln junior Riley Jensen going all 90 minutes on defense.

The Dragons tied Black Hills State, 0-0, Friday afternoon in Moorhead. Last year, UNK bested MSUM, 5-0.
