UNK Has Little Trouble with MU & TU, Faces UWP in the Semis

Kearney, Neb. – The second-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team rolled into the National Dual semifinals after downing eight-ranked McKendree (Ill.), 31-7, and sixth-ranked Tiffin (Ohio), 35-3, Friday evening in Cedar Falls, Ia.

The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Mult-Division National Dual Meet Championships are being hosted by Northern Iowa at the UNI Dome.

The Lopers (6-1) face third-ranked Wisconsin-Parkside in one semifinal dual Saturday at 11 a.m. The other side of the bracket is top-ranked Central Oklahoma against sixth-ranked Lander (S.C.). Both UT and LU are tied for sixth in the latest NWCA rankings.

In the early match against the McKendree Panthers, top-ranked Jackson Kinsella (Creston, Ia.) used a takedown with 58 seconds left to beat fourth-ranked Logan Kvien, 4-1, at 197-pounds. Next, sixth-ranked Cael Robb (Medford, Minn.) had a takedown with only 23 seconds remaining to secure a 4-1 win over 14th-ranked Cale Hoskinson 157 lbs. Finally, ninth-ranked Kaden Hart (St. Peters, Mo.) had a 15-0 first period tech fall at 184 pounds.

Against the Dragons, Robb was already up 5-2 over fifth-ranked Casey Barnett before pinning him with 15th-ranked Zach Ourada (Omaha Skutt) using a first period takedown to win by a 5-2 score at 133 lbs. Also, Hart, ninth-ranked Otgonbayar Batsuuri (174 lbs.) and top-ranked Crew Howard (285 lbs.) all had wins over Top 15 competition.

The UWP Rangers held off 12th-ranked Grand Valley State (Mich.), 18-15, in their quarterfinal matchup and after an easy 33-4 decision over unranked West Liberty (W.V.). They feature second-ranked Shane Corrigan (125), top-ranked Jalen Spuhler (149 lbs.), fourth-ranked Easton Worachek (157 lbs.), sixth-ranked Brody Hemauer (165), fifth-ranked Dajun Johnson (174) and 11th-ranked Brady Schuh (184 lbs.).
