#24 Ichabods Strike Early to Win in Topeka; UNK Hosts #4 Gorillas Next

Kearney, Neb. – Freshman Avery McCorry scored two first half goals to help 24th-ranked Washburn defeat Nebraska Kearney, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in Topeka.

The Ichabods win a fourth straight game and improve to 6-0-1 at home and to 9-1-1 (5-1-0) overall. Earlier this season, UNK faced 19th-ranked Central Missouri and Regis, a team currently receiving votes for the Top 25. Fourth-ranked Pittsburg State is up Oct. 9.

A hometown product, McCorry is now up to five goals, and this marks the second time she has scored twice (Sept. 18 at Missouri Southern). Today she found the back of the net in the seventh and 23rd minutes. McCorry was one of seven 'Bods to have at least two shots, led by sophomore Leah Hinke (five).

UNK got a yeoman's effort from the defense and junior keeper Susie Bovaird (Lincoln). She made nine saves as shut out WU over the final 66 minutes. Finally, redshirt senior Riley Jensen (Bellevue) and sophomore Natalia Waller (Omaha) went all 90 minutes on the back end with sophomore Shaeley Reichmuth (Omaha) having one of the Lopers three shots.

The Lopers host Pittsburg State (10-0-2) on Friday night, which will serve as "Senior Night" for the program.
