Kearney, Neb. – The nationally-ranked Nebraska Kearney tennis both swept the Shorter University Hawks Tuesday in Rome, Ga.

The Loper men (10-2) have won seven straight duals while the women (5-3) are on a four-match win streak. The competition level ratchets up later this week with nationally ranked Columbus (Ga.) State and West Alabama. Those duals will also take place in Rome, Shorter's hometown.

In the women's dual today, UNK allowed just seven combined points in doubles. Nationally ranked Patricija Cechanaviciute (Lithuania) dropped her first set at one singles but came back to win (-2, 10-5). The Lopers then swept the other five singles matches including junior Julia Wartecka (Poland) at four and freshman Hannah Klaiber (Germany) at six.

The Hawks, from the Conference Carolinas, tried to battle on the men's side but UNK won all three doubles matches and swept singles in straight sets. Freshman Cesare Carpano (Italy) managed a 7-6, 6-2 win at three and teamed with junior Jakub Strzelecki (Poland) to win 6-2 at three. The pair is now on a seven-match win streak. Finally, nationally ranked Ivan Melnik (Germany) rolled in the top spot (-1, -4).
