Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Both UNK Squads Go 2-2 in Georgia; MIAA Home Outdoor Opener Next Saturday

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams both fell to the West Alabama Tigers, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in Rome, Ga.

On its annual Spring Break trip, both Lopers squads beat Carson-Newman (Tenn.) and Shorter (Ga.) while falling to UWA and Columbus (Ga.) State.

The Loper women (6-5) had to tangle with the nation's fourth ranked team today (10-3). West Alabama allowed five combined points in doubles and then won three singles matches in straight sets with three others unfinished.

The men's dual pitted the 34th-ranked Lopers (10-4) against the 31st-ranked Tigers (7-3). The 29th-ranked pair of Andy Brisdon (U.K.) and Ivan Melnik (Germany) won 6-3 at one doubles but UWA took the other two match ups. In singles, the Tigers swept at two, three and six to clinch the dual. Junior lefty Jakub Strzelecki (Poland) did win his first set at five but that was one of three unfinished battles.

Both teams host Northwest Missouri at Harmon Park next Saturday (10 a.m./women; 1 p.m./men) with the women then battling Missouri Western on Sunday (11 a.m.).
