RiverHawks Take Two from the Lopers

Kearney, Neb. – The Northeastern State RiverHawks tossed a complete game four-hitter in game one and had a three-run fifth inning in game two to sweep a double header with Nebraska Kearney, 3-0 and 5-4, Saturday in Tahlequah, Okla.

Due to weather conditions, the games were moved up a couple of hours. NSU improves to 24-17 (11-9) while UNK falls to 13-28 (2-10).

In the early game, junior Jensyn Elder (12-9) and senior Brooke Wyatt (two saves) combined on a four-hitter as they struck out one and worked around four walks. Elder threw the first five innings and allowed two hits with Wyatt throwing the final two. At the plate, NSU scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth with first baseman Madison Nance and shortstop Mattison Hamilton both going 2 for 3. For the Lopers, junior Chloe Odle (Beloit, Kan.) threw a complete five-hitter.

In the night cap, redshirt sophomore catcher Kendall Kersey (Parker, Colo.) smacked a two-run single down the left field line in the top of the fifth inning to give UNK a 4-2 lead. However, the 'Hawks used three singles and a Loper error to tally three in the bottom of the inning. Three Lopers had two hits, including Raymond junior shortstop Alyssa Fortik, with NSU's first four hitters going a combined 8 for 16 with one run and four RBI's.

UNK faces Rogers State in a makeup double header on Monday (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.) and then returns home next weekend to face nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma and Newman.
