Rogers Sweeps PPD Doubleheader; 'Chos & Jets Visit this Weekend

Kearney, Neb. – The Rogers State Hillcats used a couple of big innings to sweep a double header from Nebraska Kearney, 7-6 and 6-0, Monday afternoon in Claremore.

RSU (29-13, 13-7) and UNK battled weather delays on Friday afternoon before postponing the games for almost 72 hours. On Saturday, the Lopers (13-20, 2-12) dropped a double dip at Northeastern State.

In game one, Raymond junior shortstop Alyssa Fortik (2 for 2, two runs) smacked a three-run double to give the Lopers a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth. RSU started the day with a three-run first and then erupted for four more in the fifth. A solo homer tied things up with three walks and three hits following to make it 7-4.

UNK tried coming back once again, getting three singles and two walks in the seventh to make it just a one-run deficit. However, the Lopers left the bases loaded after a strikeout and foul out ended things. Besides Fortik, California junior second baseman Gianna Galli went 2 for 4 with two RBI's while the 'Cats saw their first four hitters produce five hits and score five times.

Freshman right hander Kinsley Hill, who recorded the final two outs in game one, threw a five-hit complete game shutout in the night cap. She fanned seven and walked just one in improving to 11-3. A four-run RSU first included a two-run double to right center from outfielder Raelle Gorman.

Five different Lopers collected a hit with Central City sophomore left Jerzie Schindler not allowing an earned run over the final three innings.

UNK hosts No. 18 Central Oklahoma and Newman this weekend at Dryden Park. Cool temps and high winds could once again alter the schedule.
