Galli Belts Grand Slam But UCO Takes Two

Kearney, Neb. – The 20th-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos had a big day at the plate to take a double header from Nebraska Kearney, 14-7 and 16-1, Friday afternoon at Dryden Park.

On a blustery day with winds blowing out to right, the Bronchos move to 35-10 (12-4) while the Lopers fall to 13-32 (2-14). Zakiya Frederick

In game one, junior second baseman Gianna Galli (Stockton, Calif.) smacked a "Grand Slam" to right center in the second inning to give UNK an early 6-3 lead. The 'Chos threw two pitches to get two outs to start the inning, but the Lopers followed with two singles and two walks to set up Galli's big swing. The game featured 21 runs on 27 hits, 12 walks, and seven errors.

UCO responded in a big way as lead off hitter Rylee Lemos (3 for 4) hitting her own slam in the third with three-hole hitter Haley Gallo (2 for 4) using the wind for a two-run shot in the fifth. Galli had a five RBI effort to pace UNK with sophomore right fielder Bailey Peterson (Oakdale, Calif.) going 3 for 4 with a run and RBI.

In game two, UCO recorded 20 hits that included four doubles and a three-run shot from first baseman Brooklyn Lyles. Gallo (4 for 5, two runs & two RBI's) and center fielder Brooklyn Ryan (3 for 5, two runs & three RBI's) led the way with Madison Hamilton (2-2) throwing four scoreless innings. Freshman first baseman/designated player Kaycee Graff (Morris, Ill.) went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Lopers.

UNK hosts the Newman Jets (8-34, 3-13) on "Senior Day" tomorrow. The program will honor outfielder Alivia De La Cruz and infielder/outfielder Mary Chvatal.
