Washburn Limits the Lopers in Rare Thursday Evening Games

Kearney, Neb. – Left hander Sadie Walker and right hander Jenna Sprague tossed complete games and Washburn scored early on to sweep a double header from Nebraska Kearney, 9-1 and 4-0, Thursday evening at Patriot Park.

The double header was originally scheduled for Saturday at Dryden Park but moved up two days due to expected high winds. With Wednesday night's rain, the Dryden infield was a bit too soft, so the games were moved to Patriot Park (Field #7). First pitch was also pushed back two hours to 4 p.m.

In the night game, Sprague (4-5) tossed a three-hitter with six K's and a walk. She needed just 77 pitches to get through seven innings and coaxed UNK (13-24, 2-5 MIAA) to line or fly out nine times. At the plate, a three-run Washburn second featured two sac flys and a run scoring double from eight-hole hitter and first baseman Kadie Ediger (2 for 3, two RBI's).

For UNK, Kansas junior Chloe Odle (7-7) allowed four earned and fanned one over 6.1 innings with California sophomore right fielder Bailey Peterson having a double.

Washburn (26-14, 3-9 MIAA) threw up a four spot in the second inning of game one to take control. They recorded three doubles in the inning including a two-out, three-run shot to right center from left fielder Erin Boles (1 for 3, four RBI's). Later, the 'Bods had a three-run seventh.

Walker (13-7) threw a 112-pitch two-hitter the featured seven K's. California freshman lefty Teilar Fry threw the final 6.2 innings (101 pitches) for the Lopers with Raymond junior infielder Alyssa Fortik having an RBI single.

UNK hosts Emporia State (19-12, 5-5) Friday at 2 and 4 p.m. with the games slated for Dryden Park.
