Lopers Sweep the Tigers Again; Both Teams Home Friday

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's tennis team made quick work of Fort Hays State, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center. Clare Plachy & Coach Shafer

Due to high winds, the dual was moved indoors. UNK (9-9, 3-4) gets back to the .500 mark and records a 14th straight win over the rival Tigers (8-9, 0-6).

UNK allowed just three combined points at one and two doubles to go ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard. In duals, the team is now 29-25 in doubles. The Lopers swept all six singles matches, five in straight sets. Junior Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) improved to 12-3 with a resounding win at one (-1, -0) with junior Juliana Wartecka (Poland) taking her number four match by the same score. Finally, freshman Hannah Klaiber (Germany) won by default at six and freshman Augustina Abdo (Ecuador) dominated at five (-1, -1).

Both Loper teams host Newman University Friday at Harmon Park (2 p.m.). That dual was originally set for Sunday (April 26) but moved up; this will be the Jets final matches as a program as they will not qualify for the MIAA Tournament.
