#36 UCO Takes Regular Season Finale; MIAA's Next Weekend in Springfield

Kearney, Neb. – The 36th-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos downed Nebraska Kearney, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

This was the regular season finale for both with the dual moved up a couple of hours and then indoors due to weather. The six-team MIAA Tournament is held May 1-3 in Springfield, Mo., and the bracket will be released later Saturday. Both UCO and UNK will qualify. 

UNK (10-10, 4-5) got a win from Polish junior Julia Wartecka at three singles. She lost set one (-2) and was down 5-2 in set two but scored five consecutive points to tie things up. Wartecka then overcame deficits of 7-5, 8-6 and 9-7 to win in the third, 10-7.

UCO (16-3, 8-1) swept four other singles matches and took another by injury default. In doubles, junior Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) and senior Clare Plachy (Lincoln Pius) fell by just a 7-5 count at two.
