Competing for the Nebraska Golden Eagles Wrestling Club, Herrington finished runner up at the 2019 U.S. Open in Las Vegas in the UWW Greco-Roman Junior 130 kg bracket.

The true freshman from Kearney H.S. pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent Greco-Roman history when he pinned Cohlton Schultz, an Arizona State signee and a Cadet Greco World Champion, in the first round. Herrington finished the tourney with a 3-3 record, falling to Schultz in the finals.
