Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney track & field team had 15 top five finishes (eight women, seven men) this past Saturday at the
Doane Field Events meet.
The rest of the UNK squad competed Friday and Saturday at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln.
On the women's side, Curtis junior
Heather Wills won the 55 meter dash (7.61) with Valentine freshman
Kara Mercure third (7.72). Mercure was also 4th in the high jump (5-1.75).
Next, Sargent senior
Tracie Chanady was runner up in the weight throw (54-0.75) with Waco freshman
Jackie Ziemke leading the charge in the shot with a third place effort (42-0.75).
The UNK men were led by true freshmen
Tyler Hoch (South Sioux City) and
Tyler Grasmick (Gering).
Hoch was third at 200 meters (25.41) and 5th in the 55 dash (7.02) with Grasmick 3rd in the triple jump (43-5) and 4th in the high jump (6-2).
Also jumping 6-2 was redshirt freshman
Matt Voichahoske (Fullerton), who placed 5th based on judge's decision. Finally, Plattsmouth sophomore
Anthony La Rosa was runner up in the 55 hurdles (8.14).
UNK hosts the annual Charlie Foster Classic this Saturday.
