Kearney, Neb. – The University of Nebraska-Kearney soccer team lost to Colorado Mines,
4-1, Friday night at Foster Field at Cope Stadium.
UNK falls to 6-6-1 and to 3-5-1 in the RMAC while the Orediggers improve to 7-3-3 and to 6-2-1 in the RMAC. Fourteen days ago in Golden, Colo.,Mines beat the Lopers, 1-0, in OT.
In tonight's game, the Orediggers got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the 14 minute mark off a corner kick that was taken by sophomore Megan Woodworth. The 2010 RMAC Academic Player of the Year, Woodworth found Jessica Stark for the goal.
The Lopers tied the score with the help from a Mines defender, who kicked the ball into the back of her own net at the 27 minute mark. Earlier this year in a 6-2 win over Colorado-Colorado Springs, UNK had two similar lucky bounces.
In the second half, Mines broke the tie with three goals. The first was scored by Kim Lockard in the 70th minute from inside the box. Just seven minutes later, Anna Evens found the back of the net from 10 yard out and from the left side of the field.
Evans then added another goal with 28 seconds left on the clock.
Mines would out shoot Kearney, 14-2, and have one more corner kick (6-5). For the season, the 'Diggers out shot the Lopers 29-4.
UNK plays their final home game of the season on Sunday against Colorado Christian.
