Lopers Tie Regis, Still Alive for RMAC Tournament

Kearney, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Kearney soccer team tied No. 24 Regis, 0-0, Sunday afternoon, in Denver, Colo.

UNK goes to 6-7-3 and 3-6-3 in conference play while the Rangers are now 12-4-1 and 9-2-1 in the RMAC. Last season the two teams tied 0-0 in Kearney and then Regis won, 10-0, in Denver.

Entering the last weekend of regular season play, UNK is tied with Colorado-Colorado Springs for sixth place. The top six-teams make the RMAC Tournament, which starts Nov. 3rd at campus sites.

However, the Mountain Lions have one more point, 13-12, then the Lopers. UNK is at UCCS on Friday and then plays at Adams State (3-8-1 RMAC) Sunday. UCCS plays Mesa State (2-9-1 RMAC) to finish the regular season.

In the first half Sunday, sophomore keeper Marissa Niday (Fremont) saved four of the 11 shots that Regis attempted. On the other side of the field, the Lopers got just one shot off over the first 45 minutes.

After halftime, the Lopers went to its normal rotation of keepers and put in sophomore Vanessa Leeper (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Including two over time sessions, she stopped 11 Regis shots.

For the game, the Rangers out shot the Lopers 33-6 (15-0 in shots on goal) and had a plus eight advantage in corner kicks, 9-1.

The Lopers where led in shots by freshman Raliegh Mercer (Centennial, Colo.) and Becka Talcott (Denver, Colo.) with two a piece and followed by freshmen Sara Downey (Scottsbluff) and Sarah Talcott (Denver, Colo.) with one each.
