Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney golf teams finished third (men) and fifth (women) at the Wayne State Spring Invite in Wayne.
The two-day tournament, featuring the Lopers and schools from the NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Tournament), was played at the Wayne C.C. on Sunday and Monday.
On the men's side, UNK led after the first day with a 292 but slipped to a 301on Monday to be at a 593 for the tournament. St. Cloud State won (587/298-289) with the host Wildcats runner up (593/302-287) in the
10-team field.
The UNK women shot a 36-hole total of 698 (347-351) to come in ahead of Wayne, Bemidji State and Minnesota State-Moorhead. Concordia-St. Paul paced the
eight-team field with a 637 (320-317).
Individually, Wood River sophomore Kris Koezler led the UNK men with a one over par 173 (72-73), good for a second place tie. He was one of four golfers to be one shot off the lead, set by Adams Fields of Wayne.
Koezler had 25 pars over the two days and was even on par four holes for the tournament.

Max Hadenfeldt tied for 13th (150/74-75), Kearney senior
Alex Farrell tied for 22nd (152/74-478) and Omaha senior
Justin Onken tied for 30th (153/76-77).
The women were once again led by Hastings sophomore
Sara Wissing, who tied for fifth with a 159 (82-77). She recorded 19 pars and two birdies in the tournament while being just two over on par five holes. Kate Tobin of Augustana earned medalist honors with a 153.
Rounding out the Loper five some was Norfolk sophomore
Nicole Erwin (23rd/178), Gretna freshman
Kristen Goldenstein and Norfolk junior
Thea Baum (each 29th/182) and Beatrice sophoomre
Marni Stuart (44th/196).
The UNK men play at the Bob Writz Invite on April 10th in Castle Rock, Colo. while the women are at the Hastings Invite on April 5th.
