Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney men's golf team shot a 54-hole total of 967 to place second out of six schools at the Prairie Club Shoot-Out Tuesday in Valentine, Neb.
The
two-day tournament was held at The Prairie Club and attended by four Division II schools (UNK, Wayne State, Northern State and SW Baptist of Missouri) and two NAIA institutions (Dakota Wesleyan and Sioux Falls).
Southwest Baptist, from the MIAA, shot a 951 to lead the small field. UNK was 29 strokes ahead of USF and 30 strokes lower then NSU. Finally, both Wayne and DWU shot 999's.
Just three strokes separated the top five golfers with Loper junior
C.A. Everson (Pasco, Wash.) coming in third place with a 237 (79-79-79). Kyle Shock of Sioux Falls (235) and Jeff Hunter of SW Baptist (236) finished 1-2.
North Platte sophomore
Jordan Arensdorf was the next lowest Loper (239/81-75-83) and was followed by Fremont junior
Garrett Goldsberry (243/83-78-82), Lincoln junior
Justin Stonacek (252/87-84-81) and Kearney senior
Alex Farrell (254/87-88-79).
UNK heads to Wild Horse G.C. this coming Sunday and Monday (Sept. 26-27) for a tournament featuring RMAC and NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) schools.
