Women's Soccer Loses Another Overtime Game

Kayla Roth
Kearney, Neb. - Colorado Christian senior Jessica Smith scored in the 103rd minute to lift the Cougars to a 2-1 double overtime win over Nebraska-Kearney Friday afternoon in Lakewood, Colo.

The Lopers, ranked 5th in the Central Region, slip to 4-3 and to 1-2 in RMAC play. UNK, which fell to Fort Lewis 2-1 this past Sunday in overtime, is still looking for its first-ever RMAC road victory (0-9).

CCU, mean while, improves to 1-7 (1-3 RMAC).

An old bugaboo hit the Lopers early on when the Cougars' Brittany Corona scored off a corner kick by Ciara Meredith just 10 minutes into the game. In Sunday's loss to Fort Lewis, the Skyhawks two goals came via corner kicks.

UNK, which was out shot 14-13 on the day, turned the tables after halftime as they scored on a corner kick taken by sophomore Alicia Crawford (Kearney Catholic H.S.). Freshman reserve Kayla Roth (Kearney H.S.) managed to kick the ball into the net at the 65th minute after Crawford's kick.

The Lopers put the pressure on late, getting two shots off in the last minute with one taken by junior Morgan Abert (Waupaca, Wisc.) being saved by CCU goalie Liana Signorile.

Neither team had a shot on goal until Smith's game winner.

UNK plays at CSU-Pueblo Sunday afternoon.
