Box Score Kearney, Neb. - The Regis University women's soccer team scored two first half goals to defeat Nebraska-Kearney,
2-1, Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
Among the top teams in the RMAC, the Rangers improve to 12-4 (9-3 RMAC) while the Lopers fall to 4-11-1 (2-9-1 RMAC).
UNK has been a thorn in the Rangers side, tying them in 2009 and again last year. Both games were scoreless ties. Regis made sure another 0-0 game wouldn't be possible as senior forward Jordan Miller recorded her 10th goal of the season at the 11:09 mark.
Taking a pass from teammate Marissa Davis, Miller got past the Loper defense and took a shot in the box from about five yards out.
For the first time in program history, UNK scored a goal against Regis as sophomore forward
Becka Talcott (Denver, Colo.) slipped past the Ranger defense, took a pass from sophomore
Raliegh Mercer (Centennial, Colo.) and tallied her first goal of the year at the 32:49 mark.
The tie was short lived, however, as Regis took advantage of a Loper defensive lapse as junior Lauren Dorsey-Spitz scored her first goal of 2011 at 40.30. Miller had the assist on the goal, which again came in the box from 10 yards out.
There were only three shots after halftime, two from Regis. UNK had chances to score, having five corners in the contest, but never cracked the Ranger defense.
UNK finishes out the season next Thursday (Colo.-Colo. Springs) and Sunday (Adams State).
