Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams swept rival Nebraska-Omaha Tuesday afternoon at Harmon Park, the men winning
7-2 and the women victorious by a
6-3 score.
The men (14-6) managed to lead 3-0 after doubles thanks to winning by 9-7 scores at the first and third spots.
The close wins continued as sophomore
John Steinke (Grand Island) managed a 7-5, 3-6, 14-12 win at No. 4 singles and freshman
Josh Smith (Independence, Mo.) won at No. 6 singles by a 6-1, 5-7, 13-11 score.
The Loper women (14-6) had a bit easier time with Mavs, dominating at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to grab a 2-1 lead. In singles, UNK won four matches in straight sets to claim the dual victory.
The Lopers are at Concordia next Tuesday before heading to Denver for the RMAC Tournament.
