Men's Golf Finishes 8th in Arizona; Tied for 7th in Regular Season Standings

Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney men's golf team shot a 54-hole score of 885 to place eighth at the the 2011 RMAC Championships in Arizona.

The 13-team event, held at the par 73 Wigwam Resort in Phoenix, also incuded NSIC-members Bemidji State, Minnesota-Crookston and Wayne State.

Scores were extremely low on Monday but went up a bit on Tuesday. UNK had rounds of 289, 295 and 301 to come in ahead of Wayne, Bemidji and three RMAC teams.

Thanks to a tournament low 272 on Tuesday, Colorado State-Pueblo rallied past several schools to win the tourney with a 29-under par 835. Fort Lewis was runner up (841/-23) and Colorado Mines was third (850/-14).

Washington junior C.A. Everson (70-74-76) and North Platte sophomore Jordan Arensdorf (72-74-74) paced the Lopers, each shooting a four over par 220 to tie for 26th place. Everson was among the

Overall, 20 golfers were at or below par for the tournament. Chad Novak of Pueblo and Gavin Lyons of Fort Lewis tied for first, each shooting a ridiculous 12 under par 204.

Rounding out Kearney's lineup was Kearney senior Alex Farrell (32nd/222), Fremont junior Garrett Goldsberry (T-34th/224) and Kansas senior Nathan Gile (59th/238).

This also was the fourth RMAC event of the 2010-11 season. To calculate the RMAC regular season champ, a team received points for placing ahead of the other schools in these tournaments.

Including this event in Phoenix, Fort Lewis won with 33 points and was followed by UCCS (32), Pueblo (25) and Mines (24).

UNK and Colorado Christian tied for seventh, each scoring 25 points. The Lopers scored four in the first event, three in the second and fourth tournaments and one in the third.
