Soccer Scores Twice in Loss to No. 3 Skyhawks

Talisha Krason
Box Score Kearney, Neb. - The 3rd-ranked Fort Lewis Skyhawks scored four goals in a span of 15 minutes to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 4-2, Sunday afternoon in Durango, Colo.

FLC improves to 5-0-1 (2-0 RMAC) while the Lopers fall to 2-4 (0-2 RMAC).

Once again, UNK found themselves down early as 'Hawks senior forward Hayley Hollenga scored her fourth goal of the season at the 10:53 mark.

Prior to the contest, she was tabbed as the schools all-time best soccer player by a vote of the fans. Hollenga, who scored an overtime goal to beat the Lopers last year, now has 97 career points (36 goals & 25 assists).

About four minutes later, sophomore midfielder Megan Striedel netted her second goal of the fall when she tapped in a long crossing pass. Sophomore forward Emma Cannis assisted on the goal, the first of three in the game.

UNK bounced back, however, as freshman forward Ashtin Pawloski (Hastings) recorded her second career goal after taking a pass from sophomore forward Raliegh Mercer (Centennial, Colo.). The goal came at 18:17 and from the left side of the field.

Not even three minutes later, Mercer tied the game when she made a shot from near the top of the right side of the box. Senior defender Talisha Krason (Kearney) assisted on the goal.

The fast and furious offensive pace didn't end as Fort Lewis capped a wild 15 minutes with goals at 23:24 and 24:20. Striedel tallied the go ahead goal and then redshirt freshman midfielder Shea Haycock scored for the first time this season.

Overall, FLC out shot the Lopers 25-8 and also had all four corners in the contest. Junior keeper Marissa Niday (Fremont) made nine saves in a losing effort.

Kearney hosts Colorado Christian next Friday and then CSU-Pueblo visits two days later.
