Kearney, Neb. - Coming off a late rally over Fort Hays State, the Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team hits the road this weekend with a trip to South Dakota.
The Lopers (1-1) play Augustana (0-2) Friday at 4:00 p.m. and then face the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles (0-2) Sunday at noon. Both games will be in Sioux Falls on the campus of Augustana.
Both the Vikings and UMC are members of the NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference). Last year, sophomore
Becka Talcott (Denver, Colo.) scored a goal in the 104th minute to lift UNK to a 1-0 double OT win over Augie in Kearney.
Fans not making the trip North can keep track of both games via
live stats.
Last weekend, Augie fell to a pair of nationally-ranked teams in Minnesota State, 4-1, and RMAC-member Fort Lewis, 2-1.
UNK will be sure to mark sophomore Mackenzie Trom, who has scored both of the Viking goals. Another player to watch is junior forward Jessie Huff (team-high five shots).
Crookston, who went 2-13-3 in 2010, lost to Northern Michigan, 3-1, and Michigan Tech, 3-0, on the road last week. They are led by sophomore forward Nikki Hammond, who has four shots and the team's lone goal.
The Lopers, mean while, will look to grab a lead in both of these upcoming games. UNK trailed early in a 3-1 loss to Central Missouri and a 2-1 win over Hays.
Sophomore
Raliegh Mercer (Centennial, Colo.) currently leads the team in points (three) and shots (four) while providing solid play on corner kicks.
In goal, junior
Marissa Niday (Fremont) has made 10 saves and is the only Loper to play all 180 minutes this year.
