Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney and NW Missouri State women's soccer teams battled to a one all tie Thursday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

This marks the Lopers (6-6-2, 1-5-2) third overtime game at home this season. In September, UNK tied Central Missouri, 0-0, while beating Emporia State, 3-2.

The Bearcats (7-3-3, 5-1-2) came in as one of the hottest teams in MIAA. However, Northwest was on its heels most of the first half as UNK controlled the action.

Kearney had six shots in the first 45 minutes with junior Becka Talcott (Denver, Colo.) scoring the game's first goal at 29:33.

Getting free on the left wing, Talcott took a pass from junior Missy Everson (Pasco, Wash.) and kicked the ball past Northwest keeper Kelsey Adams. It marked Talcott's second goal of the year and 10th as Loper.

It also is UNK's 21st goal of the season, a new school-mark.

Just prior to the goal, Northwest's Crystal McElhose left the field due to injury. That gave UNK a one woman advantage until Talcott's goal was scored.  

Northwest had a chance to tie things before the break as they had four corners in a less than a minute. However, the UNK defense fought each attempt.

In the second half, the 'Cats upped the pressure and eventually evened the game. At about 72:21, Victoria Von Mende and Loper junior Kristi Rehler (Austin, Texas) were going for the ball near the UNK goal.

The pair collided, sending the ball to an open Northwest's Amanda Bundrant. She popped the loose ball into the net from three yards out for her fourth goal of the year.

Both squads had chances in regulation and overtime to win the game but Adams (six saves) and UNK keeper Marissa Niday (five saves) made sure that didn't happen.

"We probably played a bit better in the first half. It's a shame to lose a couple of points when we should have three points," said UNK coach John Maessner. "We've come along way since the start of the year and we can still get into the conference tournament."

Besides Talcott, Hastings sophomore Ashtin Pawloski took a team-high three shots and was one of eight Lopers to play all 110 minutes.

Missouri Western State visits Saturday at noon. The Griffons tied Fort Hays State, 2-2, Thursday night.
