Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Freshman
Montanna Hosterman scored twice, and junior
Becka Talcott scored for a third straight game, to help Nebraska-Kearney win at Lindenwood, 3-2, Friday night in St. Charles, Mo.
The Lopers improve to 8-6-2 (3-5-2) and keep their chances alive for the eight-team MIAA Tournament. Meanwhile, the Lions slip to 4-8-1 (0-8-0).
Looking for its first league win, Lindenwood got on the board first as freshman Bailey Cody scored off a corner taken by senior Courtney Bresnahan at the 17:49 mark.
It took UNK just 50 seconds to tie the game as Hosterman (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) took a pass from junior
Sarah Talcott (Denver, Colo.) and got the ball past LWU keeper Jade Davis for her third goal of the season.
Having just come off the disabled list, Hosterman continued to make up for lost time as she gave the Lopers a 2-1 lead by scoring in the 63rd minute. The goal came off a pass by junior
Missy Everson (Pasco, Wash.).
After scoring goals against NW Missouri State and Missouri Western State last week, Talcott (Denver, Colo.) padded the Loper lead when she found the back of the Lindenwood net in the 76th minute.
This marks Talcott's fourth goal in 10 games as she missed the early part of the season due to injury.
Finally, with two seconds left in regulation, Bresnahan scored her eighth goal to complete the night's scoring.
In 42 minutes of work, Hosterman led Kearney in shots (five) with keepers
Marissa Niday (Fremont) and
Katelin Mielke (Millard West) combining for four saves
UNK is at Truman State Sunday afternoon and then finishes the regular season next Friday at Fort Hays State.
