Northeastern Strikes Early to Defeat Soccer

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Northeastern State Riverhawks scored three first half goals to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 3-1, Friday night in Tahlequah, Okla.
 
In a battle of MIAA newcomers, NSU improves to 8-2 (4-2) while the Lopers drop to 6-5-1 (1-4-1).
 
Tonight, Northeastern scored four minutes in as freshman Lindsey Latta sent a long through ball to junior Jennifer Clark, who put the ball into the low left corner of the net for her fourth goal of the fall.
 
About 15 minutes later, it was Latta's turn to score as she let loose from about 20 yards out. UNK senior keeper Marissa Niday (Fremont) dove but couldn't stop the ball, allowing Latta to score for the third time this season.

Finally, freshman Rachel Gleason headed in a free kick taken by Latta at the 20:44 mark. For the game, NSU recorded eight more shots than the Lopers, 20-12.
 
UNK scored in the 82nd minute when sophomore Tara Knowlton (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) recorded her third goal of the season. That total ties her with freshman Mckinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) for the team lead.

Coming off the bench, Knowlton led UNK in shots with three whileHastings sophomore forward Ashtin Pawloski took two.
 
UNK is at 24th-ranked Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon.
